The Road

Shortly after the arrival of our now-beloved Canon GL1 in December, 2000 we were searching for something to do with that excellent piece of creative equipment. Drawing on my literature background I decided to dramatize a poem. After thumbing through several volumes I came across Robert Frost's classic "The Road Not Taken" sometimes remembered as "The Road Less Traveled". I sketched out a short script and coerced Suhmer to walk around the forest for a few hours. Armed with camera, tripod, and a wide-angle adapter we tramped around Watershed Park, in Redmond, WA on a rare overcast-but-otherwise-dry day during the holidays. Sidse Rascon-Powell agreed to do the narration a few weeks later, which was recorded in spite of her baby wanting to get in on the act. The Road was intended as a practice run to get our feet wet with the camera and NLE software and it was all of that and more. To our surprise, people have enjoyed this little video to a greater extent than was ever anticipated. Many thanks to Allan Loucks for the beautiful music that captures the mood of the video perfectly.
